Overview

Every three years, the Australian National University (ANU) may award a scholarship known as The Poppy Undergraduate Scholarship

The objectives of the scholarship are:

  • to help enable and encourage the recipient to continue their studies
  • to acknowledge the efforts and the courage of the recipient in pursuing the undergraduate study
  • to support and inspire the recipient to continue to contribute to their community; and
  • to provide financial support to a person of disadvantage and who is in financial need;

The second-ranked applicant for the Scholarship will also be recognised and will be offered the Poppy Book Award to support and encourage the student to purchase books needed for their studies.

Eligibility

The scholarship will be available every three years to a prospective ANU student who:

  • has been admitted to a single or combined undergraduate degree program at the ANU within the areas of Sociology, Economics, Commerce or Law;
  • has not obtained an undergraduate degree previously in Australia, New Zealand or overseas; and
  • is an Australian citizen, New Zealand Citizen, Australian Permanent Resident or Permanent Humanitarian Visa Holder.

Benefits

The Poppy Undergraduate Scholarship is valued at $5,000 per year. The duration of the scholarship will be a maximum of three years and paid in equal instalments at the beginning of each semester.

The Poppy Book Award is valued at $500 per year. The duration of the award will be a maximum of three years and paid in equal instalments at the beginning of each semeste

This scholarship is offered every three years.  It was last awarded in 2016 and will next be offered in 2019.
