With the Bachelor of Mathematical Sciences / Bachelor of Education, you can prepare yourself for a career as a secondary school teacher, in mathematics, science or IT, with the flexibility to teach middle school years through to VCE. You can also take your skills to other industries for even greater choice. You will develop skills in mathematics, computing, modelling and statistics, while you develop your own identity as a teacher. You'll learn how to teach and how to best inspire your students. As with all of our education degrees, you'll get experience each year in classrooms across the state where you can put your learning into practice with real students. The Bachelor of Mathematical Sciences component of the program will provide students with a strong foundation in the basic principles and techniques of mathematics and understanding how mathematics is applied to the real world.
The Bachelor of Education component will prepare you to become a professional educator, with electives including: information technology, physics, chemistry, biology, earth sciences or environmental science. Mathematics is a core subject. Areas of study include: computing (skills), education, mathematical sciences, mathematical statistics, mathematics, mathematics (applied), mathematics (modelling), teaching (secondary).
