Course Description

(Integrated program) This on-campus integrated honours course is offered at Hobart on a full-time basis as part of the Bachelor of Pharmacy degree (M3F and M3I).

Honours consists of planning and conducting a research project leading to a thesis. Students who have an interest in research may undertake Integrated Honours in the 3rd and 4th years of the Bachelor of Pharmacy degree. An Honours degree in Pharmacy enhances career opportunities and is the usual prerequisite for further study for a research higher degree (Master of Pharmacy or Doctor of Philosophy). Research Higher Degrees are generally expected for positions in the pharmaceutical industry, academia or government regulatory agencies.Integrated Honours consists of a major research project, which is planned and commenced in third year as an overload in the unit CSA301 and CSA302 Research in Pharmacy (background seminar, literature review and research plan, and research plan seminar) and carried out in fourth year as an overload in the units CSA404 and CSA405 (progress seminar, thesis and final seminar). It is a significant time commitment in addition to existing BPharm units and will not be suitable for all students with the necessary entry prerequisites. Students are expected to spend considerable time on their research projects outside Semesters 1 and 2 of the academic year.
