Entrance requirements for traineeships

You must be employed in a training contract by an appropriate organisation to study an apprenticeship or traineeship.

In a traineeship you also gain hands-on skills and work experience, and improve your employment prospects, while earning a wage. On successful completion you will gain a nationally recognised qualification which can lead to rewarding career options. The difference between a traineeship and an apprenticeship is that a traineeship can be either a full time or part time employment based training arrangement, usually for a nominal duration of 12 months or more, generally in a non-trade related area.

Entry Requirements

Entry into this qualification is open to students who:

  • hold a Certificate II in Animal Care or Certificate III in Animal Care Services
  • hold a relevant Certificate III or higher level qualification in an animal science discipline OR
  • can demonstrate equivalent skills and knowledge in a relevant animal science discipline to any of the above qualifications.
  • have (or can obtain) a national Police Clearance within the last 12 months (certain offences on your police clearance may affect your registration with the Veterinary Surgeons Board)

RTO Entry Requirements

As per the Qualification outline there is no mandated entry requirement. However, a pass in year 10 with demonstrate able LLN skills would be the preferred option.
  • Students will be required to have access to a computer and internet to participate in the course.
  • Students must complete a Student Learning Needs Survey to enable the lecturer to obtain relevant background information about the student including any learning needs.
  • A student Needs Summary will be completed for the individual student where specific needs are identified.
  • The lecturer may require the student to undertake an LLN assessment using the LLN Robot

All students need to have a reasonable level of physical fitness and ability. The unit requirements need this as well as the ability to work outside in dry, hot, dusty, windy and/or rainy conditions.
