Entry Requirements

This course is accredited by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) which requires students to have an English language skills level that is appropriate for this level of study prior to commencing the course.

You will need to provide this evidence prior to enrolment into the course.

Diploma of Nursing entrance requirements for school-aged applicants, educated in Australia:

  • Students must be a minimum age of 17 years and 6 months
  • A pass in year 12 English and maths. Though not a prerequisite, a science (e.g. human biology) might also be a good subject to choose.
  • Attainment of the Western Australian Certificate of Education (WACE) or equivalent from another Australian State if not from Western Australia.
  • Mature-aged applicants (educated in Australia)
  • Completion of six (6) years continuous (full-time equivalent) of secondary, tertiary and/or vocational education (or a combination thereof)
  • Where you are unable to provide evidence of your schooling you will be required to sign a declaration stating where you went to school, the years you attended and the grade achieved.

Diploma of Nursing entrance requirements for non-school leavers educated in an English speaking country:

If you were not educated in Australia, you must provide evidence of:

  • Being taught and assessed in English in any of the following recognised countries: Canada; New Zealand; Republic of Ireland; South Africa; United Kingdom; and United States of America.

As this course is highly competitive, you will be required to sit and pass a 2-hour Basic Key Skills Builder (BKSB) literacy and numeracy assessment with an exit level 3 (working at level 4). All applicants who provide an expression of interest for the Diploma of Nursing course will need to attend a pre-enrolment interview for all campuses.

Students that are required by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) to provide a formal English language skills test when applying for registration must provide a formal English language test result demonstrating they have achieved the NMBA specified level of English language skills, prior to commencement of the program.

Students are required to provide evidence of having sufficient language, literacy and numeracy skills to successfully undertake the program's academic and workplace experience requirements, prior to commencing the program.

All applicants will need to meet with nursing staff prior to enrolment. A selection process including Language, Literacy and Numeracy testing is required to be completed prior to being offered a position in the Diploma of Nursing.

English Language Evidence required for entry into the HLT54121 Diploma of Nursing course.

All applicants for the Diploma of Nursing must meet the following requirements to be considered for an offer of place.

LLN Robot Assessment

All students will sit the LLN Robot assessment to assess students reading and numeracy levels. The test will be scheduled at each campus at dates and times to suit each location. This assessment will be conducted on campus under supervision of Central Regional TAFE staff in invigilated conditions. Students must provide photographic identification when presenting to complete assessment.

The report generated by the LLN Robot will indicate the exit level of the candidate. Candidates must achieve an ACSF exit level 3 in reading and numeracy to be eligible for enrolment.

In addition, applicants must meet Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) requirements as follows:

Evidence of meeting at least one of the following English Language standards listed below:

1. Primary Language Pathway

You have attended and satisfactorily completed at least six years of primary and secondary education taught and assessed solely in English in any of the following countries: Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Republic of Ireland, South Africa, United Kingdom and the United States of America. At least 2 years of study must be between years 7-12.

Evidence required - send in your completed official statutory declaration form. See page 3 for information on what you need to include in statutory declaration.

OR

2. English Language Test Pathway - Completion of a recognised English language test

Requirement (one of the following tests). Test must have been completed within 2 years of your application.

  • IELTS Academic - minimum score of 7 across all categories
  • OET - minimum score of B in each component
  • PTE Academic - minimum score of 65 across all categories and overall
  • TOEFL iBT - minimum total score of 94 with minimum scores as follows - listening 24, reading 24, writing 27 and speaking 23
  • Evidence required - Submit an official copy of your test results.
