The Certificate II in Electrotechnology (Career Start) is the standard pre-apprenticeship pathway to beginning a career as an Electrician, teaching foundational skills in safety and first aid, as well as technical skills in electrotechnology components, accessories, and equipment.

Students will gain a broad range of skills including:

  • Preparing to work safely in the construction industry.
  • Carrying out routine work activities in an energy sector environment.
  • Applying work health and safety regulations, codes and practices in the workplace.
  • Providing basic instruction in the use of electrotechnology apparatus.

This course can be delivered on campus, as part of the VETDSS (VET Delivered to Secondary Schools) program, or as a pre-apprenticeship. Students interested in undertaking this course through VETDSS need to enrol through their school.

This course is available as part of the Free TAFE scheme.

GOTAFE Entry Requirements
Before being accepted into the course applicants:
  • Complete a Basic Key Skills Builder (BKSB)an online test to ensure the required literacy & numeracy levels for the course are met.
  • Undertake a Pre-training review interview to ensure the course suits their needs and aspirations, and that they are likely to complete the course successfully.
  • Completion of the general induction training program specified by the National Code of Practice for Induction Training for Construction Work (ASCC 2007) is required before entering a construction work site. Achievement of unit CPCCOHS1001A covers this requirement. This unit is an elective in this course.
