The Certificate III in Electrotechnology Electrician is the recognised qualification to become a qualified Licensed Electrician.

There's a lot more to being an electrician than plugs and switches. You'll work with all sorts of people and in all sorts of environments. Studying your Apprenticeship at GOTAFE, you'll learn to select, install, set up, test, repair, and maintain electrical systems and equipment.

Develop the skills to work in commercial, residential, and industrial wiring projects, solve problems with a variety of circuit types, and repair faults in a range of electrical apparatus.

Graduate as a licensed Electrician under the Electrical Regulatory Authority Council.

Before being accepted into the course applicants:

  • Complete a Basic Key Skills Builder (BKSB) online test to ensure the required literacy & numeracy levels for the course are met.
  • Undertake a Pre-training Review by interview to ensure the course suits their needs and aspirations, and that they are likely to complete the course successfully.
  • Completion of the general induction training program specified by the National Code of Practice for Induction Training for Construction Work (ASCC 2007) is required before entering a construction work site. Achievement of unit CPCCOHS1001A covers this requirement.
  • Applicants for this course must be Electrical apprentices in a current apprenticeship contract. Applicants need to be fully supervised by an A-grade Electrician in the workplace. Applicants seeking apprenticeships as Electricians are generally reasonably fit and have a good command of English and Maths.

School-based apprentices and trainees

  • Traineeship or Apprenticeship students are required to apply through an Apprenticeship Network Provider with their employer to organise their apprenticeship contract prior to applying for this course.
