About this course

The Certificate III in Individual Support reflects the role of individuals in the community, aged, home or residential care setting who work under supervision and delegation as a part of a multi-disciplinary team, following an individualised plan to provide person-centred support to people who may require support due to ageing, disability or some other reason.

These individuals take responsibility for their own work within the scope of their job role and delegation, supported and directed by supervisors or team leaders. The main focus of the worker's job role is to provide person-centered support, guided by the client's behavioural support plan, individual support plan and their personal goals and aspirations.

Upon successful completion of the Course, students will attain the CHC33021 Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing & Disability).This will enable them to work in services providing individual support to Aged or Disabled clients.

This course is available as part of the Free TAFE scheme for eligible students.

GOTAFE entry requirements

Before being accepted into the course applicants:

  • Complete a Basic Key Skills Builder (BKSB)- an online test to ensure the required literacy & numeracy levels for the course are met.
  • Undertake a pre-training review interview to ensure the course suits their needs and aspirations, and that they are likely to complete the course successfully.

Placement requirements

  • A current National Police Check with no disclosable outcomes.
  • A current Working With Children's Check (volunteer type accepted).
  • Immunisation - COVID-19, Influenza and Serology.
  • NDIS Worker Screening Check if completing a placement in a disability service.
  • A GOTAFE polo shirt must be worn on placement (purchased by the student on course induction day).

Inherent requirements

Psychological stamina to work night shifts, maintain adult hygiene, and demonstrate empathy and resilience required for working with vulnerable patients in a range of situations.

Technical requirements

In order to complete this course students will require:

  • Access to a laptop/computer with internet access.
  • Access to a digital camera or video camera for visual and audio assessment tasks.
  • Webcam for virtual classes.
