Gain an understanding of the mind

Taught by our industry-experienced teachers, Melbourne Polytechnic's Certificate IV in Mental Health provides specific knowledge and skills related to mental health issues. With a focus on recovery-oriented models and community programs, you'll learn essential skills for the community mental health and psychiatric disability sector. Melbourne Polytechnic students have the opportunity to learn on the job. You'll undertake a minimum of 100 hours work placement in the mental health services industry, under the guidance and supervision of professional healthcare practitioners and graduate job-ready.

Graduate ready to make a difference

A qualification in mental health may see you employed in a range of contexts including community based non-government organisations, home/centre-based programs, respite and residential services, clinical and rehabilitations settings/programs or employment support. As a graduate of the Certificate IV in Mental Health, you will be qualified to work as a community mental health practitioner, disability support worker, mental health support worker, youth mental health worker or outreach program worker.

Credit for prior study or work

You can seek Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) where your work experience or qualifications of an advanced and related nature have been undertaken. RPL is individually assessed based on evidence submitted by the student to the teaching department. Applications for RPL will be assessed by relevant Melbourne Polytechnic trainers, academics and where appropriate, industry experts.
