The subject explores the various facets of celebrity culture. It encompasses the analysis of cultural approaches to celebrity, ranging from the historical development, the relationships between celebrity and related media, and the study of specific celebrity case studies.

On completing the course, students will be able to:

  • Examine the historical and contemporary status of celebrity and the role it has played in shaping cultural values.
  • Review media texts and relevant theories to a range of celebrity case studies.
  • Synthesise information related to development of media, rise of entertainment industry, emergence of consumer culture and appearance of fans in celebrity culture using appropriate media presented professionally.
