Jump into the seafood industry with this entry-level qualification. You'll gain the key skills and knowledge you need to work in the aquaculture sector. Get a job as a farm hand, feeder, pond worker, hatchery hand, or nursery assistant. Work on an aquaculture farm, a wholesale or retail aquarium, hatcheries and nurseries, and live post-harvest holding facilities. With a focus on hands-on, practical learning in a real aquaculture plant, you will learn about feeding, handling and growing stock, disease management, harvesting, filleting and food hygiene, operating and maintaining aquaculture systems, as well as safe work practices, teamwork, and effective communication in the workplace.
This qualification represents the base entry point into this sector of the seafood industry and provides people with a range of core and underpinning skills and knowledge relevant to work as a field hand in the aquaculture sector. Job role titles may include Farm Hand, General Hand, Shop Hand, Feeder, Pond Worker, Farm Labourer, Hatchery or Nursery Assistant.
