Learn to implement contemporary positive behaviour support approaches for people with disabilities and identify ways the PBS Capability Framework can be used to monitor and promote human rights, quality of life, and capable environments.

Analyse fundamental concepts and theories for addressing behaviours of concern

Develop a deeper understanding of social constructs like quality of life, wellbeing, and their relationship to behaviours of concern and positive behaviour support. Examine the capable environments concept and the roles played by different aspects of the social, physical, and organisational environment in preventing behaviours of concern.

Gain valuable practical skills you can apply to your career

Apply your new knowledge to an evidence-based case study that draws on the positive behaviour support framework and prioritises human rights, quality of life, and the creation of capable environments to improve the support offered to individuals with disabilities.

Entry requirements

PBS: Models and Legislation is ideal for behaviour support practitioners who intend to register, or are registered, with the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) as sole practitioners or who will be engaged by a service provider registered with the NDIS.

Practitioners must deliver specialist positive behaviour support to people with disabilities, as outlined in the NDIS (Quality Indicators) Guidelines 2018. This requires practitioners to meet, or work towards, the capability requirements in the Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) Capability Framework.
