This micro-credential is ideal for currently practising educators and school leaders in the K-12 sector who want to understand how teachers and students transition into innovative learning environments.

It's also valuable for other practitioners (including architects, educational consultants and administrators) who are seeking the skills to lead change in schools.

This course provides evidence of achievement against Australian Institute of Teaching and School Leadership (AITSL) standards.

Consider the physical aspects of learning environments

Gain a deeper understanding of the physical and design aspects of learning environments, including spatial typologies of design, pedagogy, acoustics, digital technology and furniture.

Examine successful transitions to new environments

Investigate the elements within a school ecosystem that can support teachers to successfully transition into innovative learning environments. Analyse characteristics of successful transitions and the role of leadership and change management in this process.

Develop a transition strategy to lead colleagues

Gain the capability to lead colleagues to adopt effective teaching practices within innovative learning environments. Develop the strategy to lead your school's transition and evaluate the impact it has on the broader school ecosystem.

Course structure

This course runs over eight weeks.

Your total time commitment is approximately 42 hours, which includes:

  • 6 hours guided learning
  • 26 hours self-guided study
  • 10 hours assessment tasks.

Assessment:

  • Discussion board commentary on the elements in a school ecosystem that can support schools and teachers to successfully transition into innovative learning environments (30%)
  • Part a) School Transition Framework - Learners will develop a School Transition Framework to support their teachers and students to transition in innovative learning environments.
  • Part b) Evaluation of a School Transition Framework - Using a set of criteria provided, learners will prepare an evaluation of the School Transition Framework for one of their peers and provide any recommendations for improvement. (70%)

Credit for prior study or work

This micro-credential provides a pathway - otherwise known as advanced standing - into the Master of Education. To use it this way, you need to complete all four micro-credentials in the Leading Change in Learning Environments series, then apply for credit towards the masters.
