Non-Award
This advanced course enhances transthoracic echocardiography skills, focusing on valvular and ventricular function quantification and pulmonary hypertension estimation. It includes interactive eLearning, practical workshops, and assessments for comprehensive learning.
PLEASE BE ADVISED: WE ARE CURRENTLY NOT TAKING NEW ENROLMENTS FOR THIS COURSE
In this course, participants will advance their point of care transthoracic echocardiography (TTE) skills to include quantification of valvular and ventricular function and estimation of pulmonary hypertension.
Participants will also receive reinforcement of TTE image acquisition and assessment of acute abnormal haemodynamic states enabling more confident and accurate haemodynamic resuscitation and decision-making.
The knowledge-base learning comprises of a comprehensive package of interactive eLearning and includes practice interpretation and reporting of 20 online real pathology case studies. Participants are able to refer back to their online course materials, and will have ongoing access to all future updates of the eLearning materials.
The practical learning consists of a small group with an instructor to learn how to operate the ultrasound simulator and to learn how to perform the image acquisition skills. After the 3-hr workshop, participants are required to return in their own time to complete 10 simulator cases When completing simulator cases, participants are required to use their electronic device (laptop/iPad/mobile) to complete the required assessments. Participants are given four weeks after the workshop to complete these post-workshop activities. Additionally, to be eligible for the course completion certificate, participants are required to pass an online MCQ exam. Although not a requirement of the course, practice on patients are encouraged; electronic logbook submissions are available via the Assessment Portal which also includes a supervisor verification option.
We have changed the way we run workshops! We are encouraging everyone to purchase the online content, we promise to run this workshop at least once a month. We will publish the workshop dates 3 months in advance and you can book in when the workshop that suits you comes up.
As this course is an advanced course, the basics of image acquisition and interpretation are not covered. Hence it is strongly advised (but not mandatory) for participants to have some basic proficiency in transthoracic echocardiography, such as completion of the Focused Cardiac Ultrasound Transthoracic Echocardiography course, iHeartScanTM workshop or equivalent.
3 Hours hand-on simulation orientation at Ultrasound Education Group - Department of Surgery
The practical learning consists of a small group with an instructor (maximum of 5 participants per instructor and simulator) to learn how to operate the ultrasound simulator and to learn how to perform the image acquisition skills (3 hours). The ultrasound simulator enables highly efficient learning using dual screen display of both 3D rendered and labelled anatomy and ultrasound. Real time measurements are performed on realistic pathology cases using 2D (caliper and area), M-Mode, colour flow Doppler, Pulsed Wave and Continuous wave Doppler. The aim of the workshop is to orientate participants in how to operate the simulator and to perform the simulator cases on their own, guided by their personal digital assistant.
Post-WorkshopThe in-course assessment is submission of the eLearning self-assessments including case studies (approximately 200 MCQ's). After completion of the 10 post-workshop, self-directed simulator cases, participants are required to complete an online open book exam (20 MCQs). Upon satisfactory completion of all assessments, a personalized certificate of completion is provided.
Delivery ModeThe course requires approximately 30 hours of study, comprising 10 hours of tutorials, 10 hours of online cases, a 3-hour workshop and 7 hours for the simulator cases and end-of-course exam. The eLearning course material can be accessed using a web browser.
