Explore strategies and scenarios for managing online student interactions, bullying, feedback, moderation and peer-to-peer learning in new and emerging digital environments, including augmented reality and virtual reality. Review online learning spaces to ensure they are safe and ethical.

This micro-credential is designed for currently practising educators and those who are currently in or seeking leadership roles.

It is valuable for those applying for Highly Accomplished and Lead Teacher (HALT) levels as it can be added to your portfolio of evidence for HALT applications.

To enrol, you are required to have either:

  • An undergraduate or graduate initial-teacher qualification, or
  • At least two years of work experience in education and/or training-related roles in any sector.

It is also desirable to have some experience in teaching or learning with digital technologies.

This micro-credential aligns with industry standards and best practices.

It's been designed in close consultation with key professional associations, including Digital Learning and Teaching in Victoria and the Digital Learning Branch of the Victorian Department of Education, to ensure technological knowledge is contemporary and future-proof.

Assessment and learning outcomes are mapped to Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership (AITSL) standards, as well as International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) standards, meaning learning is internationally relevant and applicable to a wide range of educational settings.

The use of digital technologies and ICT in teaching practice is highlighted in the national standards for teaching across four levels of teacher expertise. This micro-credential addresses the outcomes at the Highly Accomplished and Lead Teacher (HALT) levels and can be used to add to your portfolio of evidence for HALT applications.

By the end of this course, you'll have a deeper understanding of how to safely encourage the use of technology in your school and advocate for positive digital citizenship. You'll be able to:

  • Integrate digital citizenship topics into existing curricula
  • Develop educational materials to use with students and other teachers as a leader and advocate for digital citizenship
  • Critically appraise the appropriate existing tools for promoting digital citizenship.

This course runs over five weeks, including four weeks of teaching and one week for assessment.

Your total time commitment is approximately 42 hours, which includes:

  • 12 hours guided online learning
  • 20 hours independent study, peer learning and professional reading
  • 10 hours assessment tasks.

Assessment:

  • Evaluation of digital resources (60%)
  • Integration of digital resources into existing curricula and advocacy for digital citizenship (40%).

Once you've successfully completed this course, you will be awarded your Teach Digital Safety, Ethics and Wellbeing micro-credential. This digital certificate will warrant the achievement of knowledge, skills and capabilities outlined in the learning outcomes. It may also include artefacts (such as videos and written material) related to both experiential and work-integrated learning, including translatable assessment that is practical to your professional life. You can also share your micro-credential digitally and via social media by adding it to your personal platforms, such as LinkedIn. See example certificate.

Teach Digital Safety, Ethics & Wellbeing can be taken as a stand-alone course or complemented with any other micro-credential in the Transforming Classrooms with Technology series to deepen your knowledge and skills.

It offers a pathway - otherwise known as advanced standing - into the Master of Education. To use it this way, you need to complete all four micro-credentials in the Transforming Classrooms with Technology series, then apply for credit towards the masters.

The series includes:

  • Digital Tools for Inclusive Teaching
  • Teach Digital Safety, Ethics & Wellbeing

Delivered fully online, this course provides a convenient way to develop your skill set, from a location that suits you. In our innovative learning environment, you'll engage with other practising teachers and education specialists and take part in synchronous and asynchronous learning activities including live webinars, peer-to-peer feedback and discussions, and interactive review tasks.

This micro-credential will expire three years from the date of issue as particular knowledge and/or skills may need to be refreshed.
