Do you want to build a career from the foundations up to the ridge flashing?. When you complete the Diploma of Building and Construction (Building) you will be ready for a career as a construction site manager, or (with additional experience) registered building practitioner.
Entry Requirements

Prospective applicants should already have a minimum of 3 years experience in a supervisory role within the building and construction industry.

In order to complete this course you will need to be able to:

  • a
    pply knowledge of structural principles
  • apply knowledge of risk and financial management
  • accurately estimate costs including labour, materials and overheads
  • prepare and administer building and construction contract
  • select contractors and supervise work

It is also expected that you will have a high level of

digital literacy including the ability to use estimating software, access library databases, online research skills and the ability to independently learn through an online platform. You must also have access to a live building and construction workplace to be able to meet the requirements for some units.

Students without the minimum education requirements may also be considered, provided they have relevant work experience and a demonstrated capacity to meet the course requirements.

This qualification reflects the roles of individuals working in the resources and infrastructure industries who perform mainly routine tasks and procedures, using limited practical skills and fundamental operational knowledge, and taking some responsibility for the quality of the work outcomes.
Entry Requirements

Completion of the bksb (Basic Key Skills Builder) online literacy and numeracy assessment prior to enrolment, unless the student has completed an equal or higher level course.

There are no other entry requirements for this course.

It is recommended that students have a sound knowledge of Year 10 Math and English

You will learn skills and knowledge for managing the building and construction requirements in small to medium-sized building businesses. It includes selecting contractors, overseeing the work and its quality, and liaising with clients.

To be successful in this course and to meet the required outcomes you will need to have access to a workplace that services building and project management types of work
AND
Undertake a Language, Literacy, Numeracy and Digital skills test (prior to entry) to ensure your Language, Literacy, Numeracy and Digital (LLND) skills match the demands of the course (level 4).

This training will provide you with the skills and knowledge required to be able to perform Rigging - Advanced Level necessary for licensing in the construction industry. This training program achieves one unit of competency from the Construction, Plumbing and Services Training Package (CPC08).
Entry Requirements

You must be physically fit and able to work at heights and at least 18 years of age - this is a requirement in the ACT for licensing of Persons Performing High Risk Work.

You will need access to an appropriate workplace with the required equipment - part of the assessment requirements for this course is an industry logbook. Teaching staff can give advice as to what workplaces are appropriate.

You must have English language skills to effectively communicate and work safely with others in the work area and to read and comprehend manufacturer's instructions and workplace procedures and safety signs. You must also be able to apply mathematical procedures for the estimation and measurement of loads. These skills will be checked prior to enrolment.

Advanced Rigging - Must hold Intermediate Rigging qualification

To study any course at CIT (excluding degrees and non-accredited training) you must have a Unique Student Identifier (USI).
