The Master of Social Work (Professional Qualifying) provides graduates with the theoretical and practical skills required to work as a professional social worker, an occupation that the Australian government predicts will continue to experience very strong growth.
Entry Requirements

1. A candidate shall hold an AQF Level 7 three year undergraduate degree in a discipline other than social work from a recognised university, which includes the equivalent of one year of full-time study, 48 credit points (8 units or equivalent) in any Social Science Discipline as defined by the Academy of Social Sciences in Australia. In other words, the 48 credit points may include units in courses such as Accounting, Anthropology, Economics, Education, Geography, History, Law, Linguistics, Marketing, Management, Political Science, Social Medicine, Sociology, Statistics, etc.

2. Candidates who have not completed one year of study of social science units but have completed a health / allied health or physical science degree should complete:

(a) at least 6 credit points (1 unit or equivalent) of studies in Sociology;
and

(b) at least 6 credit points (1 unit or equivalent) of studies in Social Policy.

Such candidates may be permitted to enrol and complete the pre-requisite units concurrently while enrolling in the approved units for the Master of Social Work (Professional Qualifying).

3. Where a candidate holds an international qualification in social work that does not meet the Australian Association of Social Workers eligibility for membership, admission may be sought to the degree through permission from the Social Work Course Coordinator. However, the candidate will be individually responsible for contacting the Australian Association of Social Workers regarding eligibility for membership based on their individual circumstances.

You will be required to undertake the Basic Knowledge Skills Builder (BKSB) to confirm you have the required Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) skills to work at Australian Core Skills Framework (ACSF) exit level 3 or higher. Admission requires the completion of the BKSB assessment with an outcome of ACSF exit level 3 - working level 4, for both literacy and numeracy., Applicants must be 18 years or over, Applicants must be physically capable of sustaining CPR for at least two (2) minutes on the floor to successfully complete the requirements of the course, Chisholm requires learners to complete one placement of 80 hours in stage 2 of the course at range of community, government and youth services agencies, Learner are required to attend an interview enrolment session, Please note: In order to complete the qualification applicants must be able to produce a satisfactory voluntary Working with Children Check and recent National Police Check is prior to commencing placement.

This professional qualifying postgraduate program provides you with a social work qualification that allows entry into the profession. It is specifically designed for graduates holding degrees with some social and behavioural science components.
Entry Requirements

To be eligible for admission to the Master of Social Work, a student must hold a relevant three-year degree in a related field (other than social work)* which includes at least one year of full-time studies in social sciences (studies of the individual and society) or equivalent.

* This includes programs in human services, social sciences, behavioural sciences, counselling and psychological sciences.

As the number of applicants may exceed the Commonwealth Supported Places available in the program, selection for admission is competitive and will be based upon past academic performance and the relevance of previously completed tertiary studies and work experience. To be eligible for a Commonwealth Supported Place, applicants are required to submit past academic transcripts and a curriculum vitae. You also have the opportunity to provide additional supporting documentation (personal statement of up to 500 words plus supporting evidence) if you consider that your past GPA was adversely impacted by significant circumstances such as poverty, homelessness, mental or physical ill-health, or family violence. If you are not successful in gaining a Commonwealth Supported Place, you may be eligible for a Fee-Paying Postgraduate place.
